Hobby Show Events for 2018

Below is a list of Hobby Show events that are scheduled for the Southern California area for the year 2018. Some of the shows listed will also have a model building contest incorporated within the show. Other shows are vendor shows, but may also have a "Display Only" area where model builders may show their works for public display. The * will indicate the events that I will not be attending as a vendor (subject to change).

2013 Update Information

Sorry guys for not posting any content last year or creating a list of hobby shows for 2012 that took place around the Southern California area.  I did attend a few shows last year but, not as many as in the previous years.  I do not plan on attending any shows during the first half of 2013.  To be honest, I have yet to promote this blog site at any of the shows I have attended in the last few years with the exception of a few individuals who had ask me to create something on the Internet to list upcoming hobby events and a way to contact me in between shows.  At some point, I do have plans to create a flyer and start distributing them at shows to promote this blog site.  At that point, I will update with various topics related to plastic hobby kits, hobby shows and maybe pictures of kits from the past.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.  Thanks,  hv

OrangeCon 2011

IPMS Orange County (Southern California, USA) will be hosting its annual Model Contest and Vendor Fair, OrangeCon 2011 on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Location is Cal State Fullerton (University) at The Titan Student Center. Hours of operation: Open to the Public 9AM to 5PM. Hobbyvendor will be there trading decals, detail parts and reading material. I will not be trading kits at this event.

Other news: Rusty Klaus of Cactus Classic Model Show informed me back in July that the show will no longer take place and that this year’s show has been cancelled. This show has a long history that goes back twenty years ago when it first started, around 1990-91. The show will be missed by many modelers around SoCal who attended. Thanks Rusty for all your efforts over the past twenty years.
I will be doing a review of all the shows that I have been attending now for the past several years. Look for this around the first of the year – 2012.
For 2012, I will start to promote this blogsite and do regular updates and do some kit building with photo captions of the build. The site still needs some work to refine it and do some changes as well. Feel free to leave a comment.

Kit, Model and Collectable Show & Swap Meet

For those of you that are not familiar with this event, it is sponsored by the San Diego Air & Space Museum and is held at their annex at Gillespie Field in El Cajon. The show has been a main attraction within the plastic model kit vendor circuit in the Southern California area for many years now. Buying and selling model kits is only a portion of what really goes on at this event, there are two separate model contests hosted by IPMS San Diego and the San Diego Model Car Club. IPMS SD is the host for the military model builders and the SD Model Car Club is host for the model car builders. This format of combining a vendor show with a model contest has been going on now since 2006, prior to that it was only a vendor show. The addition of a totally separate model car (vehicles) contest was added this year.  Tony Beres is the coordinator for this event and is a part-time consultant for the museum as well. IPMS Ontario Minicon 2011

hobbyvendor will be attending Minicon 2011 on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Ontario Senior Center. Refer to event listing for location information. Will post some comments and photos of the Kit, Model and Aviation event that the hobbyvendor attended on June 4 at the SD Air and Space Museum Annex soon.
In the near future, hv will post some kit build-ups w/pictures taken during the construction phase. Let me know what you think, comment below. Most subjects will be of jet aircraft, mostly modern types (70's, 80's, 90's and 00's) in 1/72nd and 1/48th. Some WWII subjects as well - 1/48th and 1/32nd scales. - hv
